I have a fun furniture transformation for you today! You know I’m always looking for a great deal but would you believe me if I said we found these babies on the side of the road? Literally put on the curb a few doors down from our house.
Both pieces came from the same house (and were painted to match!) but we’re just working on the bigger armoire today!
This baby was actually in decent shape. It needed a paint job (the blue wasn’t perfect) and the inside had once sported some type of wallpaper. The wallpaper had obviously been stripped off since there were large stripes of glue and left over paper… all over the back.
The rest of the piece was in decent condition… except for the bottom where the veneer was starting to split and come apart.
Supplies:
Rust-oleum Linen White Chalk Paint
Homeright Sprayer
Dixie Belle Grunge Gray Wax
Dixie Belle Crackle
BEST DANG CHALK PAINT AND WAX Brush EVER
Sand Paper
Multi-Purpose Cleaner
Furniture Wheels
Stencil
Stencil Brush
Wallpaper
Permanent Spray Adhesive
Knobs
Like always we started by taking off all the hardware and cleaning the entire piece with an all purpose cleaner (which really helped on that funky bottom!). Then it was a little repair work for the veneer at the bottom before doing two coats of chalk paint on the outside.
I sprayed both coats of rust-oleum linen white chalk paint with my homeright sprayer… and it went on like a dream! I did have to use a spray shield to… shield the inside (dun dun dun) but the spray finish is just so smooth and buttery!
Once the outside was dry we moved this baby inside to work on the back. We took off as much of the remaining paper as possible and then scraped off the left over glue. From there the only thing left to do was apply the wallpaper to the back! Luckily it was fairly easy with a bit of permanent spray adhesive.
Of course, we needed a little more oomph to the outside so I decided to add a layer of dixie belle crackle before stenciling the doors and then distressing the outside with a little dixie belle gray wax. It ended up being the perfect addition to the armoire. Take a look!
With the original hardware inside the armoire we decided to leave it natural (even though it was a little banged up in places). I just love the character it brings to the piece! At the end of the day it turned out absolutely beautiful!
I hope you love it as much as I do!
