While I always enjoy sharing the changes my home is going through I realized over Christmas that I have plenty of finds and make-overs from before the blog was ever born! So I thought I would share my favorite furniture pieces and make-overs from around my little home. The pieces you’ve probably seen in pictures but never knew their story… and what better way to kick the whole thing off then with my all time favorite piece? My gossip bench.
I first saw this piece on the internet… at a little place called The Handmade Home. Ashley introduced us to the lovely Tiffany who rescued this little bench and completely transformed it. I loved the bench immediately… it combined my love of beautiful furniture, tufting and blue and white damask all into one beautiful piece. While I loved the piece I almost didn’t click through to see where it was located, I mean it was on the internet… what were the odds that it was located anywhere close to little old me? But I am nothing if not persistent and clicked through anyways. You can imagine my surprise to find out that the little bench I loved was currently living in Montgomery, AL. A mere hour and a half drive from my Mama’s house!
I immediately called the antique store to find out if it was still there… with no luck. The gals at the front desk said they didn’t see the bench anywhere in the store. I was discouraged but not done yet… there’s always the possibility that they missed it. So I called my Mama and asked if she would mind checking it out… I was still living in Colorado at this point and couldn’t go on a crazy gossip bench finding mission myself! She and my Grandma made a day trip up to Montgomery several weeks after I originally saw the bench online… and they told me the same thing as the front desk gal. They didn’t see the bench either.
I was upset but I figured it just wasn’t meant to be… there was nothing I could do about it! I was all the way in Colorado and obviously the bench had gone to someone with the foresight to live closer! I first saw the bench online in mid July so when I finally stepped foot onto Alabama soil in December I thought the bench was long gone. But something kept nagging me to go check… just take a peek. What could it hurt? If the bench was really gone (like everyone kept telling me it was) then at least I got to enjoy a day of shopping with my Mama!
We drove to Montgomery and spent the day antiquing. The store where the bench was suppose to be was HUGE. It took several hours to comb through every nook and cranny. (Don’t feel too bad for me… antiquing is a passion of mine after all! 😉 ). Finally, against all odds I saw the bench. Not gone like everyone said, but waiting for me in the middle of the store… and despite the exuberant price tag I knew it was coming home with me.
I had lusted after this bench for MONTHS, I knew I wouldn’t regret it!
To this day the bench is one of my favorite pieces… and my hubby loves it to! Although he refuses to let anyone sit on it… he’s worried it might get messed up!
We found the perfect place for it… by the front door nestled under the front window. It’s out of the way (and the line of fire) but in direct sight of the living room so that we can still see it! It’s so amazingly beautiful, the one piece that everyone compliments me on when they enter my home! I’m so glad it waited for me!
Keep checking back as I continue to showcase the lovely finds and make-overs that came before the Happy Ever After… you don’t want to miss them!

I love it when that happens! It’s like the universe has made it invisible to others JUST IN CASE, and only revealed it to you!
