An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.

An Easy Gift… for the Whole Family!

Hey y'all

You know me… I’m always up for a good craft and this one? It’s no exception! While I love traditional pictures I have really been loving the whole three-dimensional thing going on lately… canvas pictures? Hello! Awesome! So when I saw these little wooden blocks I knew exactly what I was going to do with them!

Wooden Picture Blocks! They can easily be hung on the wall (in a larger picture gallery) or stood up on a mantle… they’re super thick! The best part? Each pack has 6 blocks… that means one for me, one for the hubby, one for Mama, one for Daddy, one for the Mama-in-Law and one for my Father-in-Law! That’s right… it’s a magical easy present… something everyone in my oh-so-picky family will love!

Now if I were keeping these babies for myself I would use a variety of Instagram pictures… but since I am giving most of them away I decided to go with safe route: wedding pictures!

Looking for a bunch of posts on painting? I’ve got you covered!

An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc. An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.

The best part about this whole project? It truly is a project! The kit comes with 6 Wooden Picture Blocks (4in x 4in), modge podge and little foam brushes! Everything you need to complete the craft… and that’s so convenient!

I started by painting the sides of each block… you might be into the natural look but I love painted 😉 Since 4 of the 6 blocks are going to other houses I went with a neutral blue gray color (bracing blue sw 6242)… a quick coat on all four sides and we were off to the next step!

An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.  An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.

Cutting the photos to fit the blocks! Luckily the blocks are 4×4… and the pictures are 4×6! That’s right I only had to cut two sides…not four! I know I know, cutting pictures out is so not a big deal but for those of us who are #straightlinechallenged having the minimal number of cuts is always a plus.

Next is modge podge! Now I’ve heard a lot about modge podge (who hasn’t… I’m pretty sure it’s a household name!) but somehow I’ve never used it! That’s right… I’m a first timer! It was so easy… went on white and dried clear! Unfortunately… it dried clear. Haha! For a girl who works at Sherwin Williams I spend most of my days covered in paint! Which means I thought the white wash on my fingers was paint and it was almost 20 minutes of pulling my fingers apart and wondering why they were soooo sticky before I figured it out! I had to stop the project to go and wash my hands! Oops!

An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.
An Easy Gift... for the Whole Family! with Happily Ever After, Etc.

Once the photos were adhered to the blocks I put an extra layer on the edges of the photo… for an extra great seal on those pesky corners! Now I know people put modge podge over the top of their photos all the time but since these are actual glossy prints I decided to forgo that step. Which means the only part left was waiting for the glue to dry… literally! 10 minutes and these babies were ready for their close up!

Aren’t they cute? I was going to give them out as Christmas presents (they’d make adorable stocking stuffers!) but I’m not sure I can wait that long! I might have to pop them in bubble envelopes and send them off as a “thinking of you gift” they’re just so cute!

I received this product in exchange for an honest and unbiased review courtesy of Global Backyard Industries. Of course I’m way too opinionated to endorse a product I don’t love… so all opinions are 100% my own! This post also contains affiliate links… for a really awesome product!

P.S. If you’re in the Colorado area and in need of an awesome photographer check out Jen at Platinum Pixs… she’s so much fun to work with and (obviously!) takes awesome pictures!
