Happy National Thrift Store Day! I’d love to tell you that I was spending the day cruising around with the hubby… hitting every single thrift store in a 30 mile radius! Unfortunately I’m stuck at work… maybe I can pop out on my lunch break for a quick run into the shop around the corner! Yes I am lucky enough to work right around the corner from (several!) thrift stores… yes it does get me in LOTS of trouble! Haha!
Either way I thought I would celebrate this national holiday by doing one of my favorite things… working on my latest Thrift Store Swap project! The first swap was such a success we’ve decided to do four swaps a year… and the second swap is quickly approaching!
This time around we’ve expanded our group to include 10 fabulous gals (instead of 6) and each gal sent two items to the next gal in line! That means when Laci from Sequins in the South sent my swap items… she went not one but two fabulous items! Now one I saw and immediately had an idea for… but the other one I could use a little help with!
Looking for a bunch of posts on DIY & Crafts? I’ve got you covered!
Click here to see all of my how to DIY & Craft posts in one place!
That’s right coasters! I think Laci read my mind because I have been on the hunt for coasters for a while now… months actually! I don’t have any… which means that water rings abound in my house. I really needed at least one set of coasters… but each set I found were either too expensive or not quite right… they didn’t have that extra special something that I was looking for. I know what you’re thinking “coasters are coasters… they don’t need to be special.”
Well actually they do 😉 .
The coasters Laci sent me aren’t anything special either… but they have so much potential! Isn’t that the best part of DIY? The ability to take something drab and make it fab? The problem is I can’t think of anything completely fab to do with these coasters!
I was hoping you (my fabulous readers!) could help me decide what to do with these little gems. I’ve rounded up a couple of ideas on Pinterest… let’s see what our options are!
So which is your favorite? The Instagram pictures in option 1? The sharpie alcohol diddy in option 2? Or the wallpaper sample coasters in option 3… as you all know I love to use wallpaper samples so I do love that option!
Of course that’s only three options… what about super secret option 4? What’s super secret option 4 you ask? I don’t know yet… I’m hoping that one of you has an awesome idea! Sound off in the comments!
P.S. If you have a minute or two pop on over to see what the other thrift store gals are up to today! I know a couple of them are planning on sharing one of their two thrift store swap items today… I’m heading over to see what they are! I can’t wait for the big reveal… so this little half reveal is so exciting!

Hi, I have never heard of National Thrift Store Day. I will have to go out today and check out my local thrift stores. I like the personalized pictures from Instagram the best. I am not much of DIYer, but these are cute coasters. 🙂

I love going to thrift stores – you truly never know what you’ll find. I love the coasters you’re starting with. I like to make stuff with resin and might try topping them with some dried flowers or something special to your friends (a charm, a photo, tea leaves?) and then pouring a layer of resin over to form a smooth surface.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
That is such a fun idea! I’ve never worked with resin before but I’ve heard about it! Sounds like fun!

That’s such a fun swap to do!! The wallpaper samples are probably my favorite. If I got them, I think I’d marble them using muted pastels. Like these https://www.pinterest.com/pin/371195194261022159/ or maybe something with gold leaf cause that stuffs my fav.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Ohhhh the marble coasters are so pretty! I do like gold leaf… Well silver leaf! Haha! You have the wheels in my head turning! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Leslie says
I’m probably the only one, but I thought the coasters were pretty as they were. I see on closer look that they have marks, but they’re a little Monet-esque. 🙂
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
They’re not bad at all Leslie! But they don’t go with my house at all… plus the whole point of the swap is to re-purpose something! Haha! Leaving them as is would kind of be cheating 😉 no bueno!
Nicole Keener says
