White, Blue & Gray: a Neutral Kitchen Mood Board

White, Blue & Gray: a Neutral Kitchen Mood Board

Hey y'all,

Next week the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home is officially back in action and here’s the best part… I’m totally participating! I’ve been watching the result of this challenge for years so now that I’ve finally picked my jaw up off the floor I’m planning to dive in with both hands. The best part? Y’all we’re tackling the kitchen. Are you ready for the Neutral Kitchen Mood Board that I am gearing up to tackle?

A completely new look for my kitchen in just 6 weeks?! Yes, please!

If you haven’t heard of it before the One Room Challenge™, is a widely anticipated biannual event held every April and October at Calling It Home. It’s a design challenge where bloggers and designers from around the web (and world) design, execute, and reveal a full room transformation over the course of six weeks. Each Thursday, guys and gals from all over flood the internet and social media with interior design inspiration, ideas, and encouragement.

After last months $100 Room Makeover (where we finished the craft room) this one room challenge is just the kick in the pants I need to take another room from part-way to done.

I really can’t wait!

We have 6 weeks to take on every little corner of this green kitchen and I promise you… at the end of the month you won’t even be able to recognize this place!

I don’t know about y’all but I think it’s finally time to do a bit of a happy dance… we’re getting rid of the green! You might remember this lovely shot from my New Kitchen Reveal… gorgeous isn’t it?

Kitchen Reveal with Happily Ever After, Etc.Kitchen Reveal with Happily Ever After, Etc.

It’s like a horrible version of Christmas… all year long *shutter* but not for very long! After Haven I have a project list a mile long and this Kitchen is at the forefront of my to-do list!

Hopefully this time next week my cabinets will go from this…

to this…

e668620c516fd80803ec9536c57f3ef1

Swoon! Light white grey cabinets, gorgeous chrome cup pulls and tiny little knobs for the cabinets. I can’t wait!

I’m still trying to decide what to do with the counters… maybe that will be a little surprise for the final reveal (or maybe I’ll leave them red for now… who knows?!)(okay I’m definitely not leaving them red *shutter*).

Either way here’s my vision for the new space… aka my neutral kitchen mood board!

White, Blue & Gray: a Neutral Kitchen Mood Board

I can’t wait!

We painted the walls Sherwin Williams Online last year so the first part of this little project will be covering the green with a nice coat of SW Site White. It’s not a true white but it’s also not a dark gray… it’s definitely a light neutral gray.

Since this is a rental we have a certain amount of permission to spruce things up but we definitely have to stay neutral… so the blue cabinets my heart is longing for will have to wait for the next house ;).  Light gray cabinets and a white backsplash will provide a neutral backdrop for future renters.

Speaking of back-splash… I’m like a kid in a candy store with this next little piece of the puzzle! Peel and stick glass tile… y’all I had a chance to look at this tile while I was at Haven and it is amazing!

It looks exactly like traditional glass back-splash but it’s peel and stick… easy to put on and easy to take off! I really can’t wait to see how it transforms the entire space. I decided on white (or frost if you’re going by the color names) for this kitchen but next time I would love to go with smoke… it’s a beautiful dusty blue!

Y’all, I can’t wait.

Now let’s talk about that fridge… y’all that’s tape. Literally gold duct tape… how amazing is that? I saw the original photo over at The Every Girl and all I know is that it’s definitely getting re-created here at the Smith house.

The original fridge is an amazing gold but I’m thinking silver or blue for my neutral kitchen makeover… probably silver since I want it to blend into the background.

On to the hardware… the brushed chrome on these babies should make the gray cabinets shine. I am super excited about the gorgeous cup pulls (from D. Lawless Hardware) for the drawers… like dance around screaming excited.

I guess that’s why decorating is my happy place… because cup pulls have the ability to make me so happy. Especially ones as gorgeous as these! I’m going to show you exactly how to install these babies so you’ll get to see the happy dance in person (in photos?)… either way you’ll get to see the entire transformation.

The last step of the puzzle is a new faucet for the sink… if you follow along you know that ours broke a while back and we’ve been searching for a new fixture ever since. I changed my mind several times since we started looking… you’ll notice I finally decided on a side spray unit instead of the pull down spray nozzle I was originally looking at.

Of course I still went with delicate turned features… not quite the french faucet of my dreams but close enough for a rental! Definitely a HUGE step up from the broken faucet that is no longer functioning… and ugly. 😉 This guy is gorgeous and will match our chrome cabinet hardware perfectly!

Dual-Handle-Chrome-Kitchen-Faucet-L11162861The finishing touches are definitely the details… because we’re keeping the cabinets and fixtures neutral we have to bring in color in the accents. Like the gorgeous slipcovers my Mama helped me make.

How to Create a New Custom Slipcover... from an Old Ratty Slipcover! How to Create a New Custom Slipcover... from an Old Ratty Slipcover!

Of course little things make a big difference when infusing color into a space. Dishes especially can add a pop of color and are easy to change when you get tired of a particular style. I love the french blue plates my aunt bought us for our wedding…these aren’t the exact plates we have but they are very similar with their scalloped edge and raised details.

They look so beautiful against our white table… so I know they’ll look great against a neutral kitchen!

Gibson-Elite-Celesse-16-Piece-Dinnerware-Set-Turquoise-c5b34ead-81d2-4658-8c56-e460fd0ab192_600

A few additional touches… mason jar soap dispensers, drink dispensers and spoon rests add a touch of the farmhouse feel.

Plus I kind of love them!

And that’s it! The full concept… start to finish! The only thing I didn’t mention were the curtains… mainly because I’ve already bought them and can’t find anything similar online.

They’re transparent with a gorgeous blue pattern on them… I can’t wait to show them to y’all! In the meantime you can check out where the kitchen began… I’ll be hard at work painting the cabinets!

As you can see, there’s a lot of DIY work to be done within these short 6 weeks. It’s a good thing the hubby’s on board because we’ll definitely need all four hands for this project.  I’m so excited to see what amazing projects other participants come up with for this challenge! Be sure to visit Calling It Home to check out the projects being shared.

If you’re new to Happily Ever After, Etc. I’d love to extend you a big welcome! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you follow along as I work to bring this neutral kitchen mood board to life!

Looks fresh and inviting! Can’t wait to see the tiles. I have promised to add them to my step sister’s kitchen. Her house flooded this past summer and I’m going to go help her out.

This is going to be fabulous! And you are using my two favourite colours – cream and grey. They look so elegant together and can be paired with any accent colour. Great choice girl. I’m so excited to be following along with this.
