How to Use Post It Notes to make a DIY Planner Sticker Kit

Hey y'all,

I have a fun little post for you today! It’s been a while since I used one of my Mambi Sticker Books for a weekly spread so I decided to bring them out for a bit of fun. Of course, while I love the rose gold stickers in the sticker books I also really like the check-lists and boxes that are so prominent in Etsy Sticker Kits.

This week I found the perfect combination by using Mambi Sticker Books with fun post it notes! The best part about post it notes is that they’re inexpensive and you can find just about any design now a-days. Plus you don’t feel bad about cutting them up to make different sizes!

Before we get started I just want to let y’all know that while I have lots of post-it notes as you can see in the video for this spread I exclusively used these rose gold sticky notes by Mambi. They’re so cute! Plus I love all the rose gold accents… makes these guys seem a bit fancier!

Check Lists for Your DIY Planner Sticker Kit

Alright, yall first things first. If you’re anything like me you need a solid to-do list every day and that means a checklist.

While you can make anything into a checklist I love the gray and white sticky notes for my checklists as they already offer set lines. Make sure to put a bit of removable glue on the bottom half of your sticky note before placing it down since only the top half of your post it note will be sticky.

Feel free to add as many checklists as you need on a specific day (sometimes I need two checklists on pay day… those bills tend to take over) but if you aren’t sure what’s going to happen in a week a good rule of thumb is one checklist a day.

The next step is to decide whether you need a full checklist (the entire length of the post-it) or a shorter list (about 4 boxes is good for a slow day and allows you to add a quarter box if you have other activities you need to write down).

With post it notes adding a header can be important… especially with the gray and white post it notes because they don’t have a header. So they look fairly naked if left alone. A couple of options are to add a single word like the script work headers I’ve used on several boxes. Or you can layer a few skinny horizontal stickers from the Mambi Sticker book to add a funkier look… Plus everything in a Mambi Sticker book coordinates so you can be sure you header sticker goes with the rest of your spread!

Half Boxes for Your DIY Planner Sticker Kit

Alright now on to the next step… half boxes! I love to use half boxes for bigger events like doctor appointments or little notes about something important that happened that day. These little blush and rose gold post it notes are perfect for larger boxes.

They’re a great size for writing in if you need the entire box or you can cut off the Today font, add a different header and use the half box for something else. The rose gold detailing on these little post it notes is absolutely beautiful and paired with a rose gold script header?

Amazing!

Make sure that if you are cutting these bad boys down for half boxes you are adding the removable glue to the back so that they stay in place. When you cut these little guys down for boxes most of the sticky is also cut off so replacing the sticky with a glue stick is super important.

Quarter Boxes with Designs for Your DIY Planner Sticker Kit

Alright y’all the last step is to add quarter boxes for appointments, blog posts, pandora charm releases… you know all the important things!

Of course, the little skinny post it notes with the rose gold detailing are perfect for this (and I would use them on everything if I could) but I go through them soooo fast. If only I could buy an entire pack just of these!

They mark off small sections in your planner perfect and when paired with little icons like these little rose gold computer icons from Fancy Sticker prints they are absolutely amazing.

White Quarter Boxes for Your DIY Planner Sticker Kit

While the rose gold post its are the bomb we don’t always have those as an option… so what do we do if our post it note doesn’t quite coordinate with our spread? Or we don’t have a post it note in the right size?

The first option is to cover a post it note that doesn’t coordinate with a larger sticker… like these little rose gold paperclip stickers from My Newest Addiction. They definitely add a pop of color and now our little sticky notes work so much better with the rest of the spread.

The only problem? By covering the colored part of our post it note we are left with a white post it note that blends into the page. That would be ok except that now we don’t see it… what’s the point of an element you can’t see? Just forget about it and write directly on the page if you want to go that route!

I like to take one of my Tombow brush pens in a coordinating color and color in the edges so that you can see the boundaries without overwhelming the page. If you have a light marker (like these light blue pastel Tombows) you could even color in the post it note for a blue quarter box.

Just starting to learn brush lettering and not sure which pens to try? Check out my brush letter dual tip pen review.

Of course, if you don’t have a post it note in the right size? That’s what scissors and glue are for… a small piece of paper cut down to size would work just fine for a small quarter box! Easy peezy lemon squeezy.

I hope you found a few low budget ideas for fun ways to make your own DIY Planner Sticker Kits… let me know if you’ve tried any of these ideas below!
