After a little bit of work our bedroom is this close to being finished! The last piece of the puzzle will be adding something over the bed… but I’m still figuring that out!
In the meantime we’ve hung the curtains, added artwork to the walls, brought in new lamps to our bedside tables and today we’re accessorizing the nightstands!
Since we have two nightstands and a dresser I consider all three surfaces when accessorizing… I want all three surfaces to work together in our small space! Of course, in a small space there’s a little less room for fun decorative tchotchkes and functionality definitely plays a big role.
These surfaces need to work hard for us! So let’s work on accessorizing those nightstands… here’s a few tips to organize your space to the best of it’s ability.
Start with the Lamps!
New lamps were really important to us… because our old lamps kept breaking! They were very unreliable. I think we’ve been down at least one lamp for the last few years! A good bedside table lamp is the difference between relaxing comfortably in bed at the end of a long day and having a harsh overhead light that you need to turn off at the end of the evening.
It’s a small piece of the puzzle but your bedroom should be a relaxing retreat at the end of the day and a good lamp is a big contribution to that puzzle. When looking for a lamp we were searching for a sturdy lamp that wouldn’t break on a consistent basis. Which is why we looked for a thick base for our new lamps.
The second piece of the puzzle is height! Take a look at your artwork and determine if you need a short lamp or a tall lamp. Balancing your lamp with the other pieces is an easy way to mix your different elements. If your lampshade hits your artwork about 1/3 from the top of the frame that’s the perfect placement.
The best part of our new lamps? They have built in usb ports! You know what that means… I can plug my phone right into the lamp! Instead of charger boxes and excess cords it’s all in one place… I LOVE that!
Add Function: Boxes, Containers and Small Dishes!
Once you’ve added lamps the next step is to add storage containers. Think about how you use your space… I use my bedside table for books, bobby pins, sunglasses, headphones, chapstick, jewlery and putting down all of those little odds and ends at the end of the day. Instead of placing all of those little bits and bobs down on the surface they each go into a specific container.
This way instead of clutter you have a clean, organized surface! It’s a win-win!
Try using decorative storage boxes for bigger items such as books, diaries, bibles or magazines. If you have a few books that you read on a regular basis incorporating them into a stack adds height to your display while keeping things neat and tidy… the hubs keeps his bible and his current book under his lamp on his side of the bed!
Small bowls or trays are perfect to corrall the smaller pieces… I don’t know about y’all but I have a million bobby pins and they are everywhere! Until I need them… then they’re no where to be found. I try to place them directly in a small dish at the end of every evening along with my jewlery. Having a designated place helps me to remember to put it back on in the morning too! Score!
It’s time to decorate: Picture Frames and Decorations!
Once you have all your form and function in place it’s time to put all the fun touches in place! I love to decorate with photos of my friends and family so picture frames are a must. After photos of loved ones small decorative pieces are the perfect solution.
Flowers are a great option to add a little life to a space… real flowers are the best but faux flowers are a great solution to year round decoration. Fill in any extra spaces with fun extras… like our teal letter S!
Now you’re finished! Enjoy your space… I don’t know about y’all but it’s time for bed over here! Time to check out those lamps!
Don’t Forget to Pin!

I really like how you have your room organized and your nightstand looks great. I’ve always had picture frames on my night stands. I actually love to have picture frames all over my apartment.

It’s always nice to have everything that you need on your nightstand but then again, I struggle when it becomes overcrowded. I think this is a great way to accessorize your night stand! I’d probably replace the flower with the books that I read.

It’s smart to utilize the space wisely. You don’t know how much you miss a nightstand until you no longer have one. We recently moved and I thought it’d be no big deal not to have them. I now have them. 😉

Nightstand. What nightstand? I got rid of mine years ago. I was so tired with dealing with the clutter. Of course, that clutter just moved elsewhere, but oh well lol!
