So my mom decided a while ago that she wants a new headboard. She had an antique four poster bed that we picked up for a great price at an antique shop… but she just didn’t love it. So she got rid of it and now she’s thinking to go the DIY route! Which is awesome because, yay new projects! The only question left? What headboard shape is best!
She’s still not sure what shape she wants… so of course I took to Pinterest! Let’s take a look, shall we?
Option A has all the beauty of a tufted headboard with the structure of a wooden piece… and let’s face it anything with tufts is awesome in my book!

I love the nail-head trim on Option B… it adds a subtle touch of bling and class! Now mom’s not all about the bling but she’s pretty classy… and nail-head is a pretty traditional way to spruce up a piece. Plus it adds a touch of femininity!
Look at those sexy lines on Option C… sleek and modern! Mom wants a classic shape but nothing too fancy so maybe something large and dramatic will fit the bill?
What about tall and dramatic? Mom has tall ceilings and a headboard with plenty of height would be fantastic in her bedroom! Option D definitely gives lots of height!
So what do y’all think? What is the best option? Let’s take a poll and then we’ll see what mom says… she might even show up in the comments! She does that sometimes 😉
Jasmine Nicoson says
Soooo pretty! I want them all!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
That’s the hardest part isn’t it? Picking just one! Thanks for stopping by Jasmine!
Robin Rue (@massholemommy) says
I have a traditional headboard and after seeing all of these, I feel so boring LOL. I Love all of those funky designs.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Haha! I love traditional headboards too! There’s no wrong answer… except maybe a mattress on the floor. I never liked that! Thanks for stopping by Robin!
Leslie Wilkie says
I love D. Actually I want to do a headboard much like that for my bedroom. 🙂
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I think she really likes D… she loves the simple look! It looks easy enough to make… good luck Leaslie!
Helen Olivas says
My grandmother had one like option A, but in green. So beautiful!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I loved option A! It’s a great mix of traditional and tufted! Maybe we can find one that’s a bit taller for extra drama! Haha!
Tiffany says
Definitely option A! It would be cool if you could somehow combine the nail heads with the tufted look.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I definitely agree Tiffany! I love it when tufted and nailheads are combined! The bench my hubby and I have our eye on for our bedroom is tufted with silver nailheads!
melanie says
I think my favorite is the tall headboard. I like how dramatic it is and makes the bed more of a focal point in the room.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I agree… she definitely needs a focal point! She’s trying to decide if she wants a tall headboard or a short one with a wall grouping over the middle. I suppose that will help with the decision!
Heather says
What great ideas! I love headboards. I’ve seen a lot of ideas on pinterest. People have made them out of wood pallets too.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I totally agree Heather! I love the wooden pallet headboards… especially the one with the yellow “Love” scrawled across the front! I love that one!
Brooke says
We are currently headboard-less and I’d love to build one, but I can’t decide what! I’d take any of these! They are beautiful choices.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Pick the one that goes with your room the best! I bet any would look lovely! Thanks for stopping by Brooke!
Leslie says
I can’t decide which one I like best!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Haha! That is my main problem too Leslie! I love them all! Thanks for stopping by!
Beth@FrugalFroggie says
I haven’t had such a beautiful headboard before. It would be nice to have one so you can sit up in bed.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Tell me about it Beth! That is the one thing I don’t love about our current headboard… it’s cast iron so there really isn’t a back. If you prop up enough pillows you can kind of sit up but it’s not the same! Oh well… mama always said beauty is pain!
Shann Eva says
I like the last one the best!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
That seems to be the general train of thought! I think people love how dramatic it is… I know I do! Thanks for stopping by (again!) I love seeing you around here!
Michelle Hwee says
I never really put much thought into thinking about a shape. Thanks for this lovely post about it.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I can’t stop thinking about it! I need to take a page out of your book Michelle! Thanks for stopping by!
Cindy says
I’m liking Option D. It looks simple but with the diamond pattern it gives it a little something.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I totally agree Cindy… the diamond tufting gives it a little something special! You’re so sweet for stopping by!
Julia says
I love them all, but I would have to say that option A is my favorite.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
You’re such a sweetheart Julia… I think option A is my favorite as well! I can’t wait to see which one Mom is going to pick!
Kat | curlsnchard.com says
I personally like option A & D best! A is more traditional, D is more modern – at least in my books 🙂
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
D is definitely modern… no doubt about that! I didn’t think about A being traditional but I can totally see that! Thanks for the input Kat… you’ve definitely given me something to think about!

If she has a high ceiling, then I go for option D. I love tall and dramatic headboards.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Dramatic is definitely the best… I love how tall D is! Thanks for the vote Elizabeth… D is looking like the front runner… I wonder which one Mom is going to pick?!
Rosey says
A headboard can make or break a room. An amazing headboard is def. an instant focal point!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I so agree Rosey! A gorgeous headboard can be the star of a room! Thanks for stopping by!
Wendy says
I love option A. I’ve had the same one for years. This makes me want to change my. Which would mean updating the room. Shopping here I come!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says

All of these are wonderful. I think B is my favorite though. Something about those curves and the nails.
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
It really is elegant! I love the lines of B… so pretty! Thanks for stopping by… you are so sweet!
Liz Mays says
I feel like I need a new headboard, but I can’t decide which type I like the most. They’re all pretty fun, I feel!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
That’s the hardest part… picking what type you like! Pick the one you like the most… if you don’t like it down the road that just means you get to pick another one! Haha! Thanks for stopping by Liz!
Georgia @ Silver Spiral Studio says
Love them all! But personally B and D are my faves. Can’t go wrong with these choices, though 🙂

A headboard is defined as a piece of furniture that is attached to the head of a bed. A headboard can be completely utilitarian but nowadays they have a lot of aesthetic values as well. Headboards are designed favorite for interior designers and they add a lot of style to the room.
