It’s almost time for the third Thrift Store Swap!! You know what that means… holiday projects! I have the cutest little holiday project planned for my second item… but you’ll just have to wait and see what it is!
My first item is this little wooden box . It’s just about the size of a tissue box but it doesn’t have the slit in the top… instead it has a little wooden handle! Erlene from My Pinterventures sent it to me along with my super secret second mystery item!
When I first opened my mail to see this little box I had no idea what to do with it… paint it? Put things in it? It’s a box… typically I open them and keep random things inside! Haha! This guys a little small for storage though so I was stumped on what to do with it.

With Thanksgiving coming up any day now (literally only 3 days away!) I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about recipes lately. We’ve only been married a year and a half so we’re still building our arsenal of deliciousness! That means we don’t have a recipe book (or box 😉 ) yet…. just a bunch of note cards that we’ve jotted down recipes as we’ve tried them over the last few years. Since this box is so tiny I thought it would be the perfect recipe box! Just the right size for a slew full of adorable recipe cards!
The timing is perfect too since I can ask my entire family for recipes over Thanksgiving… all of my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents… the whole family will gather for Thanksgiving dinner so I should be able to gather a whole bunch of new recipes!
Of course now that I know what I’m going to use the box for I just have to decide how to decorate it! Tracy over at At Home with Sweet T had the idea to use a drawer pull on the top… I like this adorable mercury glass version from Pier 1.
Isn’t it cute? Now here’s where y’all come in. I need a little help deciding how to decorate my box. I have three ideas and I would LOVE some advice. Which idea do you like best?
Idea 1:
I would love to paint the box a solid color and then use a stencil to add a pattern on the bottom half of the box… something like this lace stencil (or the lace doily) would be very elegant!
Idea 2:
Instead of decorating the entire box I could decorate one side (perhaps the front) with a gorgeous label… I love this version of the “Recipe” box!
Idea 3:
Why paint when you can cover? What about using an easy to clean contact paper! I absolutely love the color variations in both of these options… the polka dots are simple yet playful while the wooden texture has gorgeous colors!
Which is your favorite? Sound off in the comment section below to let me know which option is your favorite! Then come back for the 3rd Thrift Store Swap to see the final product!
I’ll be spending Thanksgiving with my family so you won’t “see” my smiling face around here… I’ll miss you but holiday’s are a time for family! Here’s hoping you have a fabulous day with the people closest to you! Happy Thanksgiving y’all!
