The Real Deal: A Messy Home Tour

Hey y'all

I have loved reading your sweet comments every week as I share my home and my projects with you. I do my best to take “pretty pictures” and show off each room to the best of my ability… but most rooms take a lot of effort to get camera ready! Which is why I absolutely LOVE the messy home tour that I found on She Lives Free!

Sybil is the mind behind the blog and she is participating in a fabulous round-up of bloggers just trying to share real life photos of the way our homes are the other 99.5% of the time… you know when they’re not in blog photos!

Let’s get REAL!!  You are NOT a failure; your house does NOT have to be spic and span 24/7; those magazine photos are NOT real life; and I can guarantee you that the neat and tidy pictures you see of bloggers’ homes are hardly ever like that on a regular basis. For this home tour we won’t pretty up our houses or make them picture perfect, but rather show them as they are in their usual state – lived in!

While I love the concept it was HELLA hard to take these pictures without tidying up! It probably doesn’t help that I decided to take them first thing when I walked in the door from work… that way I wouldn’t be tempted to clean up before the pictures were done! I tend to spend a couple minutes tidying up when I walk through the door every evening… I am not a neat freak by ANY means… but a couple minutes gives my brain the illusion I tried. I had to fight that urge tonight. Don’t worry y’all, I powered through for you!

So here it is in all it’s glory… the real deal… how it looks the other 360 days of the year!

Looking for a bunch of posts on organization & planning? I’ve got you covered! Click here to see all of my organization & planning posts in one place!

The Real Deal: A Messy Home Tour! Happily Ever After, Etc.!

This is how my computer normally looks… complete with phone charger, sd card reader (for my camera… hello I have to edit pretty blog pictures! hehe!) and my hubby’s chair pulled around to the side. It’s the best vantage point when we both want to look at the computer screen. Plus my lovely chair massage-y thing is in full view… I love that thing!

The trash can is literally on the right side of the counter… but we don’t put things in it… we’re rebels like that. Also we apparently do our hair in the kitchen. To be fair the hubby has been banned from using his hairspray in our bathroom because I hate the smell… and he uses enough for a small army!

You may have seen this chair a time of two… it’s on both of my home tours! Don’t you love how I “artfully” draped the throw over the back of the chair… it really flows over the arm! Yeah right… this chair was claimed by the kitties and no matter what we do they insist on using the arms to sharpen their claws! Yup, blankets aren’t just pretty folks… they’re functional too.

I would just like to point out that the laundry on the chaise is CLEAN… we are talking washed, dried and brought in from the garage… that’s 75% done people. We’re talking break time!

There is a whole bunch of amazing ladies (and gents? are there any gents?!) participating in this fun little link-up… pop on over and  see the other “messy tours!” If you’re a blogger feel free to link-up… and if you aren’t a blogger but would still like to show us around your humble abode jump into the fun by using #KeepinItRealHomeTour on instagram!

So much fun!

I love how ‘real’ your home is and that you’ve decided to share it with the world. I love that you don’t have things perfectly staged and that it’s authentic! I mean, seriously…how many people have perfectly manicured homes all day long?! This was a fun post to read and thanks for sharing your home! So cute!

Thanks Jessica! That pallet was so much fun to paint! As for Lily… She is quite the little diva… She hopped in almost every picture… While her brother hopped out! He would be sitting right next to her and as soon as I put up the camera he would move! Just like boys and girls! Haha! I have given up taking animal free pictures…. One of my girls is alway posing!

My mom told me to order pillows in the same fabric and make patches for the chair areas… I told her I will do that right after we invest in a new scratching post! Haha! The struggle is definitely real… Thanks for stopping by Christal!

I ABSOLUTELY love that you have hairspray in the kitchen! At any given moment our counter has an array of things. Apparently the command to “put your things away” means throw it on the kitchen counter. HA!

Thank you for visiting and commenting! Have a great weekend!

I have the same problem! (Obviously!) I don’t understand how husband brain works… one time I asked my hubby if the laundry was done, he said yes. Now when I say done I mean washed, dried, folded and put away, right? I went in the garage to find it washed, dried and thrown in a laundry basket. Apparently I’ll get my (wrinkly) clothes from the garage… in the cold! Silly man! I can’t wait until our children inherit his logic!

My house looks a lot like this right now. I am pretty good about picking things up at the end of the day and tidying up, but more often than not it’s on the messier side. I try not to feel bad about it. We live there. It’s our home. It gets messy. Thanks for sharing your real life pictures!

No one can live in a museum!! I like to keep my things nice but they’re just things… What’s the point of having them if they’re not USED? Just get a picture of a white couch and put it on the floor if you’re never going to sit on it! Haha! Thanks for stopping by Miranda!

You can do it! It was definitely hard (I kept subconsciously picking up the mess and having to remind myself to put it back!) but it was such a fun post! I love the pretty pictures but I always feel guilty when I move the mess just out of the frame to take the shot… hehehehe!
