Seafoam & Gray Dresser Reveal with Happily Ever After Etc

Seafoam & Gray Dresser Reveal

Hey y'all

Do you remember last week when I made my own chalk paint? Do you remember when I promised to show you what I painted? Well here’s the big dresser reveal! The big brown dresser in my master bedroom is FINALLY getting a make-over… and while it took several different, attempts shall we say, I LOVE the final result!

My mother-in-law gave my hubby this dresser back in his bachelor pad days… it’s very functional, has lots of storage and is very tall. So it’s the perfect height for our tv (yay/boo) but it was in desperate need of a make-over!

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you know that I’ve been debating what to do with this dresser for a while now. Remember the fun little graphic I posted above? I just couldn’t decide which way to go (color wise) and since this is my first foray out of the “paint the entire piece one color” style… it was a little intimidating! But since our nightstands are already gray I knew this piece needed a little pop of color, I decided to go with the seafoam and gray option since I have slowly been adding seafoam to this room all year. I have several seafoam picture frames, a chachki or two and of course the fuzzy seafoam blanket my hubby gave me for Christmas last year.

However matching seafoam paint is not quite as easy as you would imagine! The first color I tried turned out candy apple green… not a good look! The second color went way too blue… it was electric! Not the color to portray the peaceful retreat I was looking for in our bedroom! I tried to take pictures for y’all of these two color fails… but apparently my camera was fuzzy that day! You get the idea though, right?

Once I found the perfect color it was all over but the crying! I absolutely love this version of sea-foam! It matches my blanket PERFECTLY! I painted the drawers in one coat of gray and four coats of seafoam… the electric blue was very hard to cover! After the seafoam was dry I distressed the raised parts… the drawers looked very flat in the same color! Adding a bit of gray makes them really pop!

My favorite part of this whole piece? How much my hubby loves it! We have very few things that HE brought into our home from before the marriage. Most of our furniture was “mine” before the wedding… the rest is things we’ve purchased together. This dresser and his grandfather’s desk are the only two furniture pieces of “his”. Luckily he loves how they look painted! I love how happy it makes him!

Isn’t it amazing how a little bit of paint can make furniture of completely different styles go together?

I absolutely love how this dresser turned out! Its so peaceful and makes the room that much more cohesive! Now I just can’t wait for our shelves to be finished! Come on honey… you can do it!

On a similar note yesterday I found this teeny pillow at TJMaxx… it has a touch of seafoam and a touch of blue. I’m trying to decide if I love it or if it’s just too much! What do y’all think? The perfect touch of seafoam? Or too much of a good thing?

WOW! You really did a fabulous job and to take a treasure to both of you and turn it into something even more spectacular is a gift. That is the beautiful part of this piece of furniture, the memories now taken from the past combined with those created in the future. Carrie, A Mother’s Shadow

This looks fantastic!!! You are so talented. I have been trying to get up the confidence to paint my tired old dresser but I am so afraid of doing something terrible and ruining it. I think you may have given me the confidence to go ahead 🙂 Thanks for sharing

You can do it Donna! The great thing about paint? It’s only paint! If you hate it you can always paint over it (three times! lol) or strip it down and stain! So many options! Send pictures once your dresser is beautiful… we want to see 😉

I love all things makeover especially a furniture makeovers. I don’t like buying any furniture new if I can help it. I think the old stuff is built better.
