While we still have a lot of work to do on our “castle” we are proud to announce the office is finished! You know what that means… it’s time for a fabulous Office Reveal!
When we started the room was coming together but had a “his and hers” kind of feel with my white desk and bookshelf on the left side and my hubby’s brown pressed particle board desk and bookshelf on the right! The room itself is itty bitty, about 9×10, so with two large desks and two bookshelves we are definitely using all available real estate! We decided the best way to use the space was to paint both my hubby’s desk and the little bookshelf white, to give the room a light bright feel, and unify the space.
See what I mean … dark and dated! The desk itself was a gift from my hubby’s Grandpa, I’m pretty sure he wants to be buried with it… so while he would never part with it, he was a-okay with painting it (got to love him).
The white desk and bookshelf make all the difference in the room. Now It’s light and airy, just what we were going for! Plus we added a little extra pizzaz with a wallpaper backing… you don’t have to settle for an out of the box bookshelf. It’s so easy to customize it for your space!
I know it’s just a little moment but I love love love these little glitter deer! It’s so much fun to take something drab and completely re-envision it! If you have a little knick-knack sitting around that you’re not sure what to do with… don’t throw it away. Make it over!
So here’s the breakdown: my desk was about $50 on clearance at Wal-mart. My mother purchased it for me several years ago when I graduated from college, thanks mom!
It was such a great deal we also bought the matching printer cart (located in the corner between both desks) for about $20! Score! They are light and open which is great for a teeny tiny room like this one.
A desk with sides would completely block off the room and make it feel crowded. As I stated the Hubby’s desk was a gift from his Grandpa so $0!
The rug is one of my favorite summer purchases, I saw a zebra print rug several years ago in a magazine and (despite my great dislike for most animal prints) just had to have one!
Unfortunately most zebra print rugs run between $400 and $500 for a 5×7, way out of my price range! When I found this one for sale at Tuesday Morning for $129 I definitely did the happy dance! I think my screams might have scared the sales gal! My hubby didn’t even ask if I wanted it just rolled it up and put it on the checkout counter (is he a gem or what?).
The “& they like happily ever after” sign was hand painted by yours truly after seeing this beauty over at the Handmade Home. Lucky for me that project was completely free, I raided my dad’s shed for a straight pallet and used a coupon for a sample pot of paint and stain. While it took several hours of carefully painting, I love the results!
Plus some of you may notice my favorite saying turned blog title. I really do believe in Happy Ever Afters!
Thanks for reading and stay tuned to see how we transformed the hubby’s desk!
