With the big pieces of the guest room falling into place (we have the bedding picked out and the wall decor covered! I even have a plan for the back accent wall!) that only leaves the little details to be sorted out.
Since this is my first guest room I’ve done a bit of research into what I should incorporate into the final room! I mean for my bedside table it’s easy to pile my latest book with an array of bobby pins and hair ties! Not quite the ambiance I’m going for in the guest room (although my guests might appreciate a free hair tie… I know I never travel with enough!)… either way here’s the final list for awesome things to include in the final guest room mood board!
Linens & Bedding
The worst thing you can do for your guest room is use horrible sheets… who wants to sleep in an uncomfortable bed? Luckily I’ve got the bedding aspect covered with an amazing quilt set from Bedding Style! They’re super soft and reversible… so you can use either side.
Lighting
If you think bedding is important lighting is a close second. Overhead lighting is covered in most rooms however task lighting can make your guests stay much easier. A lamp to turn on in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom or a lamp to read by before bed. If your bedside table is too small for a table lamp try a wall mounted lamp over the bed. The main goal is to turn the light off and on without leaving the bed… especially on cold winter nights!
Reading Materials
Of course if you’re ready with a reading light your guests might need a little reading material! A few magazines that cover various topics are a welcome addition to any room! Of course you can’t go wrong with a a few books either. If you don’t have enough to fill an entire wooden box try slipping a few into a decorative stack on the dresser or a few in the drawer of the bedside table.
Wi-Fi Connection
How cute is this? A little frame with the wi-fi password! In today’s digital world every guest will eventually ask for the wi-fi password… make it easy for them with one of the fabulous wi-fi printables on pinterest! If you change your password often simply leave a blank space on the printable and write in the password with a dry erase marker! Then you can change out the password with every single guest!
Clock
This particular clock is the latest addition to my desk… but the underlying concept is to include a little clock for your guests! Try a sassy little clock like mine or buy a cute little alarm clock so that your guests can set their own agenda.
Closet & Drawer Space
This might be the hardest item on the entire list… leave a little bit of closet space for your guests. If they stay for longer than a night they’ll appreciate space to hang their clothes and unpack their suitcases. Make sure to leave a bit of space in the dresser and an open hook in the bathroom… they’ll want a space to hang their towel!
Extra Shampoo & Toiletries
This might be my favorite tip… use an empty jar to corral extra toiletries. Toss in all of your extra hotel shampoos and hygiene products. Try including a spare toothbrush and tiny package of toothpaste. Plus… it’s adorable!
That’s it! All of my favorite guest room tips… I’m off to find an empty jar, wooden tote for magazines and adorable wall lamp!
If you’re working on your own guest room don’t forget to pin for later!

I picked it up at Kirklands about a month ago! I wish it was available on their website so I could leave you a link but I can’t seem to find it! Good luck!
