A month or two ago I shared that we finally installed a doggy door… and could clean our carpets once and for all! Thank goodness! What I did not share was the process behind the dog door!
Honestly y’all it was so easy there’s not even much of a tutorial! The entire door came collapsed in two pieces that you put together… just take a look.
You basically slide them together and then place two screws in either side to hold the two pieces together. It could not be easier.
The hardest part comes when you get to the little bubble wrap baggie of supplies. I haven’t even gotten to this part yet because the hubby may or may not have misplaced it… but when we installed this door at my Mom’s house it was super simple.
Basically it’s a roll of black squishy weather proofing sealing material that you roll up the inside of the doggy door so that there are no nooks are cranny’s for air to get through when you close the door. It’s sticky so you just roll it on and then cut off the excess! So easy!
Look how clean that little door is! The three little noses that open our door keep it in a constant state of smeared… yuck! Luckily it’s little and by the floor so you really can’t tell!
The crazy part is that even though we have 3 animals (one tiny yorkie and two cats) four little noses have been pushing this door… about a month and a half ago I looked up from my desk to find a stray cat in our kitchen!
He’s learned how to use the doggy door and now comes in whenever he wants! Mom’s worried he’s bringing all kinds of diseases but we can’t figure out how to keep the poor guy out… he doesn’t interact with us either, so as soon as he sees us he runs out the door.
Oh well… he’s better than a racoon! He showed up right after our elderly neighbor moved to a nursing home and with the multitude of kitties she had living at her home we’re pretty sure he’s not a true stray. I guess we’ll find out!
All in all this little project only took about an hour to complete but it makes our animals very happy… and a clean carpet makes me very happy! So everyone is happy in the Smith household!
I mean just look at that face! If you’re looking for your very own sliding glass screen door here’s the one we bought for our little gal… isn’t she modeling it very nicely!
She really has no idea what’s going on! Either way she loves being able to go outside whenever she likes!
