A couple of weeks ago I shared our little *ahem* potty problem with all of you… Little Bitt tries her very hardest but sometimes she just can’t tell us when she needs to go outside! Being a 9 pound yorkie she has the tiniest bladder and she’s too quiet to let us know when she needs outside to tinkle! Which means we have had our fair share of accidents inside. No bueno. We finally found the perfect spot treatment and with a brand new doggy door we should be finished with our little potty problem!
We’ve been accident free for 2 weeks!
Which means it’s time to deep clean the carpets… for good this time!
We’ve used the Rug Doctor before but this was our first time trying the Bissell Big Green… and let me tell you it was awesome! We rented ours locally at Fred’s which is just a couple miles down the road. The hubby was convinced we needed ALL THE CLEANER so he bought a bottle of pet formula, a big bottle of oxidizing solution and a little spray bottle of spot treatment.
He goes just a tidge overboard…
This little guy folds up so it was super easy to bring home… we only have a little four door sedan so being able to fit these things in the backseat is always a priority.
Once we were home we started to clean with the Bissell big green machine… I loved the way this guy works! It has an easily removable water basin so you don’t have to carry buckets of water back and forth from the tub. Which is great if you’re like me #ispillthings. We started in the office… this room is definitely the worst because it’s right by the front door (which means Bitty makes it to the front door and then forgets how to ask for help and potty’s on the rug).
Just take a look at the rug before we started…
Yuck! All of the dark spots are soiled… not cool. It looks even worse in real life too!
Here’s the same spot after 1 round with the Bissell Big Green machine. The hubby spot treated each of the worst spots with his little spray bottle and the pet solution before running over the entire space with the machine.
Look how much better it is! You can literally see the cleanness…
I took a few close up’s so you can see the mess… and the cleanness for yourself.
It’s hard to believe it’s the same spot! With the pre-treatment this guy got super clean and almost a day later it’s already dry to walk on. That might be my favorite part… I hate walking on wet carpet don’t you?
We also used the Bissell machine in our master bedroom although without the spot treatment… take a look!
Look how clean it is! With the pet stains I feel like the pre-treatment method worked better… I can still see a few spots in the bedroom that are going to bug me (we’ll make another pass later before I turn this guy in) but over all I’m super happy with the Bissell!
With one pass in the office and the bedroom the office carpet has become completely clean while the bedroom is still at 75%. That’s pretty darn good! We also cleaned the hallway carpet although I didn’t take a picture since it’s so dark in there. I’m sure y’all don’t want to see my cave of a hallway… even if it looks fantastic. The Bissell is able to clean while the machine is going forwards and backwards which made cleaning the long narrow hallway that much easier… score!
Once we were done with the Bissell we cleaned the guest room with the Rug Doctor… take a look!
I have used a Rug Doctor several times before (just about once a year for the past 6 years) so checking out the machine with the touch screen was fairly easy… just follow the on screen prompts ;). Once we had the rug doctor home we filled up the water tank (and by we I mean the hubby… remember #ispillthings). We started on the guest room but after FIVE passes with the Rug Doctor the stain was still not coming out… boo.
We’ve used the Rug Doctor so many times in the past few years and each time the carpets are better… but not perfect. They take days to dry and you can still see the stains! I don’t know about y’all but I don’t want kind of better stains I want no stains!
Yuck! No sir, not for me! I think we’ll stick with the Bissell from now on… even the hubby agrees. I asked him which machine he liked better and the answer was the Bissell… hands down! If you’d like to try the Bissell for your very own little potty machine… I mean puppy… then snag a $10 off coupon. Remember… every dollar counts!

Wow. It looks like the Bissell wins the carpet cleaning test. I haven’t noticed them, but I’ll keep my eye out for them. Also, I don’t like walking on wet carpets. Have a great day Betsy.
