How to Clean Pet Stains out of Carpet with Bissell: Which method works best?!

How to Clean Pet Stains out of Carpet with Bissell: Which method works best?!

Hey y'all,

Alright besties I have to let you behind the curtain for a second… can I tell you a secret? My sweet little yorkie baby has a potty problem.

Yuck!

She’s getting better but sometimes her little eight pound body just can’t hold it! We’re putting in a doggy door that should help with the problem but in the meantime we need a little bit of damage control on the carpet situation!

Of course with a potty problem I’ve tried every carpet cleaning solution on the market… and none of them seem to hold up to my little angel! So I’m running my very own experiment… I’ve pulled two carpet cleaning solutions off Pinterest and I’m going to see which one works the best!

Hopefully one will be my savior!

The best part? To go with my new clean carpet I have a new pretty vacuum! You know you’re an adult when opening the box to a brand new shinny vacuum is the most exciting thing you do all week! Plus it’s blue… which is kind of my jam. 😉

Method 1: The Volcano

Alright so this first method uses a bit of a science to take the stain right out of your carpet!

Supplies:

Vinegar

Baking Soda

Dry Rag

Bissell PowerForce Helix

This spot is right by my desk… so it drives me nuts! It definitely had to come out! The hubby and I attacked this stain first with our vinegar and baking soda… he was so excited to create his very own volcano! Haha!

Step 1 is super easy… simply cover the stain with vinegar. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way and the more you pour on the stain the longer you’ll have to wait for the spot to dry! (We may have poured way to much on… don’t judge. It’s not every day your hubby gets to conduct his very own science experiment in your living room!)

Step 2 is where the science comes in… sprinkle the stain with baking soda! This is the coolest part… you can actually hear the reaction! Once the fizzing stops it’s time to blot up the mixture with a dry rag. Take as much of the mixture out of the carpet as possible… then leave the carpet to dry!

Once your carpet is dry (mine took an entire Avengers and two Say Yest o the Dresses!) you’re ready for step 3: vacuum the rest of your mixture out of the carpet! (On a different note look at all that stuff in the vacuum! We vacuum once a week and this guy still found dirt that must have been around since the stone age! What a difference a new vacuum can make! I may or maynot have gone on a vacuuming spree before starting the Avengers. Eek!). Once the carpet is vacuumed you should be left with a clean rug… what do you think?!

Method 2: The Combination

With this method we’re basically making our own carpet cleaning solution… which I’m pretty excited about! I’ve tried all the store bought versions with no success so hopefully this version will be perfect!

Supplies:

1 gallon plastic or glass container with lid

1 cup hydrogen peroxide

1/8 cup dish liquid

1 tablespoon Oxiclean

1/2 cup fabric softener

Hot water

Bissell PowerForce Helix

Alright y’all here’s why we’re calling this one the combination… because the first step is to take all of the ingredients besides the hot water and combine them. Yup step 1 is just to take all of your supplies and mix them together! We simply measured out each ingredient and then poured it into our container!

Now fill the rest of your container with hot water! Mix well and you’re all set! You can pour your mixture into a spray bottle, directly onto your carpet or even into a carpet cleaning machine if you’re doing a large area! Since we have a really stubborn set in stain we decided to go straight for the big guns and pour directly onto the carpet.

Now step 2 is the same as in method 1, blot all extra moisture from the carpet and then leave it to dry! (This time I couldn’t convince the hubby to watch Say Yest to the Dress and had to watch him play Baseball on the playstaion… snore!).

Once it’s dry go ahead and vacuum up all the extra moisture to reveal your clean rug!

Alright y’all… I think I’ve finally found the perfect carpet solution! Method one left a little to be desired… I feel like I can still see the stain.

Yuck.

Method 2 on the other hand has left the carpet clean and smelling fresh! (We had the hubby do the smell test… don’t worry ladies!). The hubby has already poured the rest of our carpet combination into a spray bottle to tackle the rest of the house… I know what we’re doing for the rest of the day!

This is really good advice for removing stains from your carpet. Keeping your carpet clean when you own pets is a constant challenge, even if they are well trained. Nevertheless, your dog is adorable! Thanks for sharing such clear instructions! Great post!
