Home for Fall: DIY Neutral Fall Wreath!

Home for Fall: DIY Neutral Fall Wreath!

Hey y'all

I am absolutely loving the neutral fall colors this year… the normal warm autumn oranges and reds are so not my jam! That’s why I really loved the idea to put together a neutral fall wreath… with gorgeous bright whites instead of your normal autumn foliage!

Plus my front door is a muted dark red… so a white wreath will really pop!

Home for Fall: DIY Neutral Fall Wreath!

The best part? Along with my sweet neutral fall wreath you can enjoy a host of other fun fall projects… because Hometalk’s Home for Fall blog hop is in full force below! So check out the pictures of my little project… and then see what the other fabulous #‎homeforfall‬ bloggers have cooked up below!

When I started this little project all I knew was that I wanted a simple wreath that incorporated acorns or pine-cones or leaves… something from nature! I was really set on pine-cones but after a late night stroll through Wal-mart I realized that there were no pine-cones to be found!

As an Alabama transplant I didn’t realize how difficult finding pine-cones could be! In Colorado if you need a pine-cone… you walk outside! When I needed a whole bunch I hit up the local Hobby Lobby where I found an entire bag in the clearance section for a dollar! So you can imagine my frustration when I couldn’t find a single, solitary cone!

Of course, my lack of pine-cones made me search just a bit harder for a similar item for under $10 that I could use in my fall wreath!

Here’s what I found:

Home for Fall: DIY Neutral Fall Wreath!

A wreath frame, white yarn and white leafy flowers… for only ninety eight cents!  The yarn was 3.13 and the wreath frame was 1.88 so the entire project was under $7!

I started by wrapping the entire base with white yarn… it took a moment but I wanted complete coverage! I went with two layers of yarn all the way around… that way no green had a chance to peek through! It took a minute (ok an episode of How to Get Away with Murder and half a Dancing with the Stars) but wrapping yarn around wire isn’t exactly rocket science… just time consuming!

After the yarn was securely in place it was time for step two… the leaves! It only took a moment to separate each leaf from the rest... I simply cut the stem as low down as possible on the flower. I almost cut the stems off but they actually came in handy! Instead of gluing the leafs straight to the yarn I tucked the stems inside the yarn… like the picture below!

The yarn hides the stem but the stem helps to control the leaf’s position… we want each one to be placed just right! After each leaf is placed I carefully lifted the edge and placed a dollop of hot glue on the underside! The stems actually hold each leaf in place fairly well but since this is going on the front door (aka outside!) I wanted to be sure the leaf’s wouldn’t blow away in the wind!

I just love how it turned out! Simple yet sophisticated… with just enough glitter to keep me happy! Of course my favorite part are the neutral colors… the white looks fabulous against that red door! My hubby thinks the white lends itself more towards Christmas than Fall… but I think neutral can be gorgeous year round! What do you think? Is white too neutral… or is it the perfect alternative to the busy colors of Fall?

How is it that we always get so much yarn over the years I know I have bags and bags of it but of course I can’t find it at the moment! It’s packed away somewhere in a box! I’m so glad you liked it though send me a picture if you end up making one I’d love to see your version! Thanks for stopping by!
