9 Things to Paint when the Walls are off Limits

Hey y'all,

When working on a makeover people often turn to paint… I mean it’s easy to pick the perfect color for any room! Plus paint tends to be the most cost effective part of any room transformation!

But what do you do when painting the walls isn’t an option?

Sometimes you just can’t paint… and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You can make your mark without painting the walls. Make your space your own in other ways!

Here are 9 ways to infuse your style into a space without breaking out the paint brushes!

A Statement Piece

Happily Ever After, Etc. Home Tour

If your walls are off limits try infusing personality with a large statement piece! This hutch absolutely makes the dining room pop whereas a large bookshelf or cabinet would do the same for a builder beige living room or bedroom.

Curtains

If you have a few windows curtains can really make a big difference in your space! Think about it… they run from floor to ceiling and really break up a space visually!

If you’re worried about finding the perfect set of drapes try this tutorial from Remodelaholic for painting a pair of plain white curtains… you’ll soon have the perfect look for your space!

Furniture

Now painting furniture isn’t exactly a trendsetting statement… but don’t discount the impact it can have in your room!

Painting a coffee table, dresser, bookshelf or desk can break up your space while adding a pop of color of pattern. Take my  coffee table… a simple script pattern adds a bit of fun to the top while the white color helps to break up all of the teal and grey.

The Floor

If you’re renting this one might be a little hard to pull off… but with cement floors the possibilities are endless! Try painting a drop cloth for a similar look… a little starch will turn your painted drop cloth into a gorgeous stenciled rug.

Of course if you’re looking to spruce up your cement flooring a little bit of chalk paint might be the perfect answer.

Accessories

You don’t always have to think big to make an impact, sometimes painting the little things is the perfect solution! The little moments can make up the big picture.

This painted globe was the perfect guest book at my wedding and now it makes the perfect accessory for my living room.

Light Fixtures!

The best part about a great light fixture? Even if you’re renting they’re easy to switch out! Simply store the rental light in a safe place and then put it back in place before you leave! Easy peasy lemon squeesy!

Now instead of an out of the box light you can rock a beautiful chandelier like this painted free chandelier! Now that’s a price a girl can get behind.

Storage

DIY Rolling Cart Organization

Storage can make or break a space… not just functionally but color wise! Don’t feel restricted with the basic color of your rolling cart or bookshelf.

Just because a piece comes out of the box while doesn’t mean it has to stay that way! Spray paint does wonders y’all… take it from me! This little rolling cart went from white to aqua in 20 minutes… with a little metallic bling for the wheels.

Rugs

If you’re still wondering what you can paint look no further than what’s under your feet. A plain rug can become a stunner with a gorgeous printable stencil and a bit of paint… take it from mountain modern life! She made the gorgeous dining room above!

Artwork

Last but not least take a look at your walls… or rather look at what’s on your walls! A large piece of artwork will take up a log of visual space while infusing a fun pop of color to your own space!

Plus by making your own piece of artwork you can pick exactly what your heart wants! Just like the pallet art in my office!

So there you are 9 fantastic items to paint when you just can’t paint your walls… which one is your favorite?!
