As you all know it’s almost time for our second wedding anniversary! Normally a second anniversary wouldn’t warrant a party but we enjoy any excuse to get together and eat cake. (I mean really… who doesn’t?) We won’t be having a blowout with a hundred people but a small party with some of our close (geographically speaking!) family will be absolutely perfect!
Since we’re on a budget around here I’ve assembled my favorite 5 tips to have a budget friendly anniversary party without spending a ton of cash!
Use What YOU Have!
I know… not exactly rocket science! But you’d be surprised by the number of people who think that a party means a large decorating budget! For the party I threw at Christmas time I bought a few key items to spruce up the decor but the majority of the decorations were items I pulled from other rooms! Decide on your theme and then think about what you already own!
After walking through the house I found at Christmas time I found a set of blingy pillar candles, small glitter birds, mercury glass cloche and numerous other items that all fit within my winter wonderland theme! Think outside the box… just because an item isn’t labeled as “anniversary party decor” doesn’t mean it won’t be perfect!
Pull out the Wedding Decor!
If you’re a newlywed (like me!) chances are you still have a large portion of your wedding decor stashed in the bathroom closet… don’t read too much into that last statement. 😉 I have been slowly selling off the decor from our wedding however I still have the mercury glass vases, flowers from our centerpieces, petals from the flower girl basket, candles from the reception and birdcages from the church!
Most of the year these excess supplies are a pain in my rump but when it comes to an anniversary party they’re the golden ticket! Whip those babies out and you have instant decor… perfect for any anniversary party! After all if it was good enough for your wedding it’s good enough for the after party!
Even if it’s been years since your wedding you most likely have a few remnants! Break out the guest book (or guest globe!) and add a few new signatures!
Make Party Favors that Double as Dessert!
Buying 30 small key-chains is probably a little outside of your party budget… plus in all honestly no one outside of your Mama wants that key-chain! Maybe not even her!
Instead trying buying a set or two of these adorable cookie cutters! Then you can bake your guests adorable little party favors that double as dessert! Win-Win! If you’re drawing a blank HotRef.com is a good place to get party favor ideas!
Of course if you’re not sold on the cookie idea there’s a few more Anniversary Party Ideas where that came from!
Borrow Staples from Friends and Family!
If you’re low on supplies reach out to people you know! Chances are someone in your circle has a cake plate you can borrow or a set of candles! While I have plenty of decorations I’m still building my collection of serving platters… luckily Mom doesn’t mind sharing! Almost all of the serving dishes at my Christmas party belong in her cabinets!
We used a cake plate from her collection to add a bit of height to the table’s centerpiece while her serving spoons were the perfect addition to my white Mikasa French Countryside dishes!
Hit up the Thrift Store!
You would be surprised by what you can find at your local Thrift Store! Great candles, fantastic table cloths… all kinds of goodies at great prices!
I’ve found countless pieces at the Thrift Store over the years… including an amazing set of 15 candlesticks at Goodwill! Score!
