I’ve gone absolutely bonkers this month! I already have a full posting schedule (4 times a week, thank you very much!), a weekly newsletter, a weekly printable AND I’m right in the middle of working on a new product that I’m kind of excited about. Of course, I work best when I’m busy so when I had the chance to jump on the $100 Room Makeover Challenge I jumped at the chance… I mean why not add one more thing to the pile?
This will be my first time joining the challenge but it sounds like sooooo much fun! Essentially I am joining with a group of other bloggers to makeover one room in each of our homes. One room, one month, one hundred dollars! You get the idea!
The concept is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to take your room from where it is to beautiful. We don’t live in magazines, this is real life and things get messy… but we can make them prettier along the way!
Just take a look!
This month I decided to focus on my craft room… for two reasons. The first one being that I started on my craft room last year and still don’t have it finished! I’m ready to have every single room in my home liveable… maybe not gorgeous but I want to be able to walk into them and take a lap. Right now the craft room is more like an obstacle course.
I didn’t clean up at all for these photos… this is the realest you’re going to get y’all.
I mean the last time I went in there I fell over a big stack of things my husband “put away for me”. Isn’t he helpful?
Which brings me to the second reason I’m focusing on my craft room… my new cricut! I finally broke this baby out of the box but I still don’t have a good home for it… so I need to get my act together, clean up the room and actually start using it! I want to make some stickers gosh darn it!
Here’s the Plan:
Bookcases
The reason the room is sooooo crazy right now is because I had two short bookshelves flanking the window (you can still see the empty white one). In a fit of rage I took the brown one out last week on my way to my Mom’s house where I banished it to live in her barn. The short white one will be banished to our laundry room for storage just as soon as I can find my hubby to lift the thing…
That will leave room for another tall white bookcase. With a tall shelf on either side of the window I should have plenty of storage! A new bookshelf will cost about $30 so that will be the biggest part of my budget.
I already have wallpaper to back the new bookcase so it matches the other bookshelf and the blue craft cabinet. If I have room left in the budget I’d love to add crown molding to the top of both so that they’re a little beefier and look more like built-ins on either side of the window.
Kind of like this:
Desk
I absolutely adore my desk but the dark wood is just not working for me. I have a gallon of waterbased enamel in a gorgeous blush color that would look wonderful in here… I think I’ll do two coats of paint to bring this old gal back to life.
That will definitely add a little feminine touch to the space! Since this is my craft room it’s my one room in the house to be trullly girly. The hubby is actually awesome when it comes to that kind of thing. If I wanted to do every room pink he’d probably let me but he wouldn’t be happy… so I try to respect that and keep our main living areas blue and gray. Even though my version of blue and gray is still a bit girly. Oh well, I tried.
I’m loving this piece for inspiration!
Storage
My real problem in the craft room is storage… where do I put all this crap!? I mean it’s mine, I own it, I obviously need it… I mean I might use it one day down the road!
The problem is storing it in the meantime. I’m thinking once I have both bookshelves organized I’ll have a better sense of what space I have and what I still need homes for. I have the wall under the window left to organize and the weird space by the craft cabinet to utilize. Since the space by the craft cabinet is kind of a hole I’ve been using it to store my light kits. I can keep them set up (mostly) so it’s a pretty good solution… but they take up about 1/3 of the space.
I’m thinking a storage cart of some kind for the rest?
That would give me a little more storage while still being mobile. Something like this guy maybe? I love that the shelves are flat which would be perfect for my craft supplies.
For the space by the window I’m thinking a peg board! I have a pink trunk in that space currently and it takes up all the valuable floor real estate… but I’m not ready to get rid of it yet. So adding a floor to ceiling peg board would give me valuable storage for a bunch of the items I currently have on the bookshelves.
Hopefully freeing up space on the bookshelves means everything will fit!
Cross your fingers! I’ll be back next week with an update!

Those before photos remind me of how my parents spare bedroom currently looks. It was supposed to be a guest room, but overtime the bed and the room have been filled with… stuff that doesn’t have a home! It’s a room they’ve asked me to help them tackle this year.
I look forward to seeing what you decide to do with your craft room and love the bookcase and pegboard ideas you’ve shown above.

You ideas for this space are amazing! Love pegboards in craft room spaces, as they almost become decor with all the brightly colored crafting materials. Can’t wait to follow your progress this month. So excited to have you join the challenge!
