Between a full time job, keeping up with the housework, unpacking, working on the blog and any type of social life it is easy to be stressed these days. There’s so much to do and so little time!
So when I saw that adult coloring was now a thing (who knew?) I figured… why not?
I loved coloring as a kid and I love crafts now so I figured coloring was a natural fit… and since I accidentally spent 3 hours on Monday coloring the night away it looks like I was right!
I have colored pencils… somewhere… but I really have no clue where! They aren’t a medium I use often since markers show up on card-stock or scrapbook paper much better. So when I decided to take up adult coloring I needed a brand new set of shiny pencils.
Oh darn! I just hate buying new things!

Don’t you just love that brand new, never been used, straight out of the box, freshly sharpened feeling? It’s like a box of opportunity just waiting to be opened! Nothing has been snapped in half or sharpened down to a stub… everything is even, fresh, unused. It seemed a shame to even use them!
I picked this Starter Set from Amazon, it has 50 color pencils and 50 washable markers. OH and a handy dandy aluminum sharpener. Which is good because I don’t even remember the last time I had to sharpen a pencil the old fashioned way… so I have no idea where my sharpener is!
If you haven’t colored in a while you should definitely give it a try. It’s such a refreshing feeling… having nothing more important to worry about than what color to use next.
I thought the whole adult coloring trend was a little strange when I first saw it on Pinterest but now I’m totally on board! The best part was that I was able to watch an entire episode of Grey’s Anatomy and Once Upon a Time without feeling the urge to turn off the TV and go do something else!
I often have a hard time sitting and doing nothing, I get that urge to be productive! Don’t you hate that? It’s normally helpful but let’s be honest… we all need a break every now and then. I think coloring will be mine!
Of course I have plenty of sharpie’s but I wanted washable markers so that I could color at my (white) desk without fear of the markers bleeding through and staining the surface of my desk. These babies did the job just fine! Plus they didn’t get that annoying black spot on the tip after coloring for a while (you know the one I mean!).
I imagine these babies aren’t immune and if I were to color for a month or two it would appear… but I’ve had markers that were ruined after one session and these babies came through an entire coloring sheet just fine!
Just look how crisp the colors look! I love that hot pink!
If you’re looking to start coloring yourself ( 🙂 ) I found plenty of free coloring printables on Pinterest! I’ve linked the three I used below… just click on the image to take you to the printables!
That’s it! Once you’ve purchased your color pencils and printed off your coloring pages you’re all set! Have a stress free day friends!
What do you think about the adult coloring trend? Will you give it a try?
