Inexpensive Solutions for Succulent Wedding Decor

Every week I receive dozens of questions from you… which is absolutely amazing! Unfortunitely I can’t answer each and every one of them (although I do try) but I make sure to answer at least one question each week in my weekly newsletter where you get behind the scenes tips, tricks and fun information.

Of course, some of the questions I receive are short and sweet… quick to answer. BUT some of those questions have long answers… answers I think the rest of my readers just may benefit from. So here are those answers! Starting with today’s question:

Hi Betsy,

Can you suggest inexpensive solution for decorating with succulents? Rustic elegance theme with blush, gold and ivory colors. Need tall arrangements for dinner tables and 2 tall arrangements to go on columns. Loved your answer to Beth about the columns. (me, too – no burlap).

Thanks, Carolyn

Carolyn,

Thank you so much for asking this question! I love answering all types of questions (home decor, paint, brush lettering, wedding, fish…) but my favorite questions are definitely about succulents.

Mainly because I love succulents.

If you’re new to succulents you can read all about Succulent Basics (we’re talking 101 level y’all) here and if you’re ordering succulents online (like so many brides do!) here are my favorite places to order from.

Of course, when we’re talking about weddings the succulents can really pile up! So here are my best inexpensive solutions for decorating with succulents… and since I can’t leave well enough alone I’ve added a few extra decorating solutions for a beautiful wedding.

Enjoy!

Columns

When it comes to columns and succulents less is more. Think lots of fabric paired with a few succulents! Tulle would be beautiful or even a lightweight linen… I know you’re not a fan of burlap.

Imagine these beautiful columns wrapped with hibiscus and succulents with a few smaller filler flowers.

Magic!

Tall Centerpieces

Inexpensive tall succulent centerpieces… now that’s a tall order!

See what I did there? I know… I’m puny. Either way we go back to the same strategy… we want to buy fewer of the expensive ingredients (the succulents) and more of the inexpensive ingredients. So think of items like these tall cylinder vases filled with rustic filler like sand, seeds, water, feathers… all the fun stuff! Then add one succulent on top.

Beautiful!

Of course, tall solid vases with a pretty arrangement on top work too… just keep in mind using a variety of filler flowers or large blooms to pair with your succulents.

My favorite idea may be the last one though… a few beautiful tree branches would be perfect for a rustic wedding! I love the succulents at the base with candles in the branches but to keep costs low it would be just as pretty to wrap the base in a pretty tulle (to hide the ugly base that needs to hold the branches upright) and tie a few succulents on the branches!

That would be stunning.

Succulent Favors!

Little succulents are the perfect favors… they’re beautiful and you can get a set of them fairly inexpensively. Of course, there’s no reason to put alllllll the pretty plants off on a favors table. These little pastel babies would be perfect for favors… and decor! Pull them out to decorate the actual tables with a note for each guest to take one home when the party’s over. Favors, check! Table Decor, check!

That’s two birds with one stone y’all.

Succulent Bouquet

If you’re looking to add succulents to the wedding on a budget only add a few in high impact places… like the bouquet! Everyone will see them but you’ll only need a couple. Of course, to reeeaaallllly keep costs low have the florist mix in succulents with other flowers so that you’re not paying for an entire bouquet of succulents.

The best part about using succulents in a piece like your bouquet is that you can keep them forever! Flowers die but succulents can be planted, the leaves can be propagated… which means you can take your bouquet home and the succulents will live forever.

Add them to your garden or an arrangement that you can keep inside.

Succulent Favor Tags

If you’re set on using succulents as party favors (because they’re so darn cute!) but you’re looking for a more inexpensive option keep in mind that the pretty pastel succulents cost more than a set of beautiful green succulents. Especially if you only order multiples of one plant… say 50 or 60 succulent rosettes (echeveria minima maybe?!). To add a pretty (and unique) touch to your flat of identical succulents try something like these cute little printable succulent tags “Let Love Grow” y’all!

There are a million more places you can add succulents throughout your special day. Whether you’re looking to go succulent crazy or keep it simple here are a few more of my favorite ideas!

Bouquets

Boutonnieres

Cake (and Cupcakes!)

I hope that helps Carolyn! Good luck with the wedding!

XOXO, Betsy
