Here comes another installment of our fabulous wedding series over here at Happily Ever After, Etc.! When you’re a bride there are so many little things you just HAVE to have! It gets daunting to wade through all of the pretty things! And the pretty things? They’re expensive! Wedding hoodies, robes for the bridesmaids, flipflops for your honeymoon on the beach… these things add up! So when a friend of mine sent me a pin for these adorable veil weights I just had to draw the line… yes they were adorable… yes I wanted them… NO I was NOT going to pay $56.00 for a set of 6!
I decided to make my own… and now I’m sharing my craftiness with you! Eek!
The original weights are called Save the Veil and can be found at Hair Comes the Bride. They are seriously adorable and come in several different styles and shapes… I don’t know why I love them so much… I was married in a Church! No wind in sight!
Oh well, love is blind as they say. 😉
I had this vision of my veil blowing about in the wind… getting stuck in my lipstick… having a huge red lip print for the rest of the day… it wasn’t pretty. Even if your ceremony is inside (like mine) you may opt for pictures outdoors… voila, veil weights! They simply clip to the edges of your veil and give it just enough weight to stay straight and not fly about! Genius!
So how do you make them? Easy peasy lemon squeezy… I’ll show you how!
DIY Veil Weights:
Bouquet picks: I found mine on clearance at Michaels. They were only $3 for 3 instead of $56 for 6! Score!
Little tiny round magnets: for magnetizing your veil weights!
Lots of hot glue! Extra if you are forgetful like me and waste half of your hot glue before you even start #dontpluginthehotglueandforgetitson that wastes glue!
After you gather your supplies the rest is super easy! The first step is to snap the pick part of your bouquet pick OFF! I was worried that I would need pliers and tools to wrestle these babies apart… but they literally just snapped apart in my bare hands! Not sure if that is good or bad (are they suppose to be that fragile?!) but since it worked in my favor I just went with it!
The second step is to hot glue one of your magnets to the back of your new veil weight! Make sure that your magnet is good and secured so that it won’t go anywhere… and that’s it!
You’re done! For $5 in bouquet picks and $7 in little tiny magnets you can have adorable veil weights! Way better than the $56 dollar version!
You can find similar picks at craft stores or online… I loved the pearl option! Want something a bit sparklier? Try searching for a rhinestone bouquet pick! That’s the great thing about DIY… you can make your veil weights perfect for you!
