Like most gals I love to shop, & of course my favorite thing to shop for is homegoods! But while the heart is willing, the wallet is silently screaming “no, don’t do it!”. So I suppose I should amend my previous statement to: like most gals I love to… window shop! So today I thought I would take you to one of my favorite stores TJmaxx, to see what goodies we can find.
First up is this geometric rug in soft grey’s and pinks, I’m currently looking for a bath rug in exactly this color scheme for my guest bath. I’m not really a straight edge kind of gal, I’d much rather have filigree and swirls but the colors play together so nicely it made me think about it! Unfortunately at $24.99 she had to go back on the shelf.
Who doesn’t love a good storage piece? I thought this paper box labeled “Let’s pretend this is important” would be super cute to house bills in our new home office! The three bin tower next door would be great for little odds and ends in the living room. The blue box was reasonable at $9.99 but the tower was $24.99, ouch!
Remember my latest objective to display wedding photos in various locations in my new home? Well that means if there’s a frame aisle, I am all over it! While there’s always plenty to choose from, a frame has to be gorgeous and budget friendly to take it home. Unfortunately for these two they were slightly off color scheme as well, but if I had a good place for them…. ;). The little gold frame is gorgeous, but I am typically (always) drawn to silver before gold so she stayed on the shelf despite her $4.99 price tag. The larger pink frame was gorgeous but again slightly off color, I try to avoid to many pinks in my home out of courtesy to my hubby (although the man’s a saint when it comes to decorating, I could probably do the entire house in pink and he wouldn’t mind! Right honey?).
Now I have my priorities and my hubby has his. If he’s out shopping with me you can usually find him with his nose in the candle aisle. He loves a good smelling candle, (although his favorites are typically cucumber melon scented). This time he picked triple berry for his favorite scent, but he knows the rules, he’s not allowed to buy new candles until he’s burned through all of the ones at home… I’ve been a little lax about that in recent months so he’s got quite the stash to burn through before he can bring another one home, especially one priced at $12.99 like this one!
Another one of my weaknesses is a cute journal, I love to write in my diary at the end of a long day and I go through them lickety split! At $3.99 and $4.99 a piece these babies were priced to sell. The little teal diary with the tiny bee on the cover may or may not have ended up coming home with us (ok it definitely came home with us!).
Now this piece has plagued my honey and I all across America! A couple months ago while shopping at AtHome in Colorado Springs (our former home) we saw a similar bench and exclaimed if only it was grey linen, tufted with silver nail-head trim it would be perfect! The culprit in question was grey linen (check) no tufting (no check) and gold nail-head trip (also no check). No sooner did the words leave my mouth than we saw this baby at our local Homegoods store.. priced at $129. Not a bad price but at the moment out of our price range. We proceeded to see the same bench at every store we stopped to stretch our legs at during our road trip down to Alabama. We saw her in Colorado, Missouri, Kentucky and now she’s come to haunt us in Alabama… the grey linen/tufted/silver nail-head gods are taunting us and it’s cruel punishment indeed.
Another one of my dreams is to own a grey flokati rug for our master bedroom. Several years ago I purchased two small 3×5 grey “flokati” rugs at Ross for either side of our master bed. They’re adorable, add a pop of grey to the room and do the job well but they’re no substitute for a large area rug! You can imagine my excitement when i spotted these two grey and white “flokati” rugs at TJmaxx, at first sight I thought I hit the mother load! Grey and white, 5×7, decently priced at $99! The angels were singing! Then I realized that 5×7 was a great size for my office but I really needed a larger rug for the bedroom, and while chevron is great, I really wanted a solid grey rug… since the white gets so dirty (trust me the small grey rugs I own now replaced an identical white version that lasted about a month. Word to the wise, if you have animals that leave presents or small children skip these rugs entirely… they are not mashing machine friendly). So while the angels quietly went back up to sit on their cloud and await the right buyer, my hubby took my hand and dragged me away. Mark my words though, one day I will own a large, grey flokati rug for under our master bed, I’m determined!
Short of the small diary that found it’s way into our cart earlier in the shopping adventure, our only purchase was this small canvas. I am currently working on two wall murals, one for the master bedroom and one for our long hallway. I love the colors on this piece and have you noticed my affinity with maps? I’m not sure where but this little gal will find a nice home somewhere on my walls!
