Ever since we moved into the new house we’ve been having major problems with our electricity bill… it’s doubled from our last home! I’m not sure if our walls are less insulated or if the hubby is turning the thermostat down when I’m not looking (he likes things chilly around here!). Either way Fall is right around the corner which means low thermostats and chilly temperatures… yikes!
Since I don’t want to spend a fortune on heating this winter I thought I would start by cozying up our home in preparation for the colder temperatures headed our way! Aka the #MakeBetsyWarmCampaign! So I’m thinking through my favorite essentials for fall. If you’re struggling to make your home warmer start with a couple throw blankets… they’re inexpensive, functional and completely gorgeous!
Take this faux fur blush number… it’s been on my wish list for a while now! A blanket in a fun color (like blush) will add the perfect amount of sophistication to our master bedroom… throw blankets are the perfect place to play with color since they’re easily replaced and don’t take a huge commitment. We have a light turquoise throw right now (which I adore because my hubby picked it out for me last Christmas) but Fall is the perfect excuse to stock up on fuzzy blankets! Snuggling under a pile of these bad boys will make the cold winter months go by so much quicker!
Of course after blankets pillows are my second weakness… as you can see we have plenty for our bedroom. No shortage there! A full set of pillows (euros, standard shams, standard pillows and a decorative front man) will give your room a polished look and help it to look finished. Plus they help to surround you with warmth each time you lay down! Sinking into a pile of pillows is kind of like sleeping on a cloud… if it was a warm fuzzy cloud!
I’m still looking for a few grey euro pillows for our guest bedroom… but I haven’t had too much luck! I took a peek over at Parachute (a great bedding company) and found this pair of light gray euro shams. I love the linen texture and the color name… Fog. Sounds like a lazy London morning!
Although snuggling up isΒ my personal favorite part of Fall… another great tip for a cozy household is to turn off the big bold overhead lights and use a great table lamp. A lamp (like this one from our recent Thrift Store Swap) will create a cozy glow for task lighting without being bright or over bearing! The best part about this one? It only cost a dollar!
A scented candle will add to the ambiance… you could try a fall favorite like pumpkin or apple cider! Of course if you’re looking for something new Parachute has a fun new fragrance called fireside… the smokey smell of a burning fire definitely says fall to me!
The most relaxing part of Fall? Coming in from a cold football game to a warm bath. Nothing melts icy toes quite like hot water, relaxing bath salts and a warm fluffy towel.
So what are your favorite tips to cozy up this fall… how are you keeping your electric bill down? I know long baths are probably not the most cost effective method… but every so often a girls got to indulge!
What’s your favorite Fall indulgence?

I love all this, Betsy–because I am ALL about the cozy! π I just asked my husband (who has more time to check long-range weather forecasts than I do) when I can FINALLY put the uber-soft/fleecy/fuzzy sheets on our bed. And hallelujah…I think we are finally THERE! π Thanks for sharing all these lovely ideas…and here’s to the success of your #MakeBetsyWarmCampaign! π
