It feels like I’ve been painting non-stop since last week… between my coffee table, side tables, kitchen table and brand new storage cabinet it seems like everything needs a fresh coat of paint!
Come to think of it the dressers in my bedroom have seen better days as well…
Anyways. I’ve taken a moment to put down my paint brush because… I’m stumped. I have a brand new storage cabinet that I absolutely love… but I’m not sure what to do with all the detail work. Don’t worry… I won’t leave you guessing. Here’s a little sneak peek!
See what I mean? The entire dresser needed a good sanding, a few finishing nails, a little wood putty to even things out and (of course) a good coat of paint. We’ve gotten to the painted part… the entire cabinet is now a lovely shade of blue!
Now typically I would leave it at that (I’ve never been one to paint high lighted bits or fancy details) but this baby is just begging for a little detail work. The fancy schmancy details really get lost in all that blue.
So here’s the part where I’m stumped… I’m not sure how to go about highlighting all of the yummy dresser detail. Paint the raised parts? Perfectly? Distressed? Just a little… two coats? What does this piece need?!
I’m still trying to figure it out… so I’ve done what I always do when I need inspiration… and gathered a few ideas! Let’s peruse them… shall we?
I love love love the bright white clean lines on this first piece! Of course there isn’t anything fancy about these lines… but the simplicity is the really special part here! Every single curve isn’t highlighted… and that’s what makes it fabulous!
On the other hand this baby is the exact opposite. Antique white, soft lines and gorgeously blended. I adore the soft lines that follow every curve.
I love the perfect procession that this delicate gold leaf was painted with… it truly looks like every single line was perfectly drawn with a ruler. Perfect coverage with no blemishes… there is part of me that loves that!
The other part of me? Loves the laissez-faire way the paint was applied to this turquoise dresser! You can see the wooden base at parts and the wonky lines in other places. Isn’t that fabulous? It reminds me of Lorelai Gilmore when she casually tosses off:
This says ‘Hello, I’m hip and cute but also relaxed since this is something I just threw on even though it looks fantastic on me.’
Perfection!
Now here’s where the baby gets thrown out with the bath water… this entire time I was thinking I would have to break out the little bitty paint brush and get down and dirty with each and every detail.
But the last piece? The white detailing wasn’t done with paint… but with white wax! Just paint it on and wipe it off! How easy is that?
I suppose now I have even more to think about!
What would you do?
