Today I have a super cute inspiration board for my friend Sam from DIY Just Cuz. Sam posted an adorable reveal of her girly Japanese nursery reveal a couple months ago. I absolutely loved her unique Japanese theme… the cherry blossoms and pandas were just so cute! After seeing her nursery pictures I was struck by inspiration to see if there was a way to incorporate more toy storage into the room for her little Japanese cherry blossom.

Sam posted a couple pictures of her little girls room… and while the furniture is absolutely gorgeous the changing table is taking up valuable toy storage real estate! Since her little gal will soon be in need of more toy storage and less diaper changes ( 😉 ) we talked about nixing the changing table and adding a changing pad to the top of the wide dresser. That frees up an entire wall for toy storage!
A black IKEA expedit would be perfect for this wall… they’re inexpensive and low to the ground. If you’re not feeling the black check out this white version! 4 casters would be an easy upgrade to make the expedit look intentional and give it just a little height. Adding a few pink baskets will allow easy access for little fingers… it’s always good for some toys to be easy for baby to get to. That way she can pick out her own toys… and eventually learn how to put her own toys away! The top of the expedit is the perfect place for a few choice accessories… a lamp and a wall gallery! I picked a few cute pieces to get the party started!
Sam had talked about a tall bookcase… I love this white version from Project Nursery… there’s less storage low to the ground but the concealed storage makes up for it. Plus it takes the eye all the way up! Reid’s Black Expedit Toy Storage gives a great example of how a black expedit can provide amazing toy storage… and completely encompass an entire wall!
My second idea was to hang curtains all the way across the wall to unify that back wall. A wall of fabric can soften the overall look of the room while keeping a cozy feel. Plus? I found super cute cherry blossom tie-backs! They’re fairly sturdy so mounting one on the left side of the window will allow the curtains to be pulled back when needed… leaving the other half of the “window” conveniently closed to block that pesky door.
A fun set of tissue pom poms and a cherry blossom paper lantern will take the eye up and give baby a focal point during diaper changes! Plus they’re whimsical… which was one of Sam’s requests! A fun black and white changing pad breaks up the pink curtains… while a near by chevron diaper caddy corrals changing supplies. Then there’s the giant panda bag… it could be used for anything! Stuffed animals, a dirty clothes bin… whatever the heart desires! It’s just too cute!

Sam has picked out an adorable cherry blossom mural for the main point of the room and her crib is gorgeous! I love the curves! A soft white canopy will break up the massive wall decal… plus it’s super dreamy! A bed fit for a precious little girl! Her Japanese origami crane mobile would fit perfectly inside the round hoop of the canopy… giving an extra special touch.
All that’s left is the perfect panda rocking animal… I think this little guy needs zero explanation! He’s adorable!

So what do you think Sam? Is this what you were thinking of? If my version of a Japanese Cherry Blossom Panda Princess Room isn’t what you were thinking of you could always try wrapping your little gal in a gaggle of panda stuffie’s! It seems to be working for this little angel!

Love this idea! Pandas are my favorite animal and cherry blossoms are some of the prettiest flowers (not to mention my favorite scent at B&BW:) I have that Ikea expedit bookshelf and it is very versatile! I’ve used it as a bookshelf and tv stand. It would be perfect with baskets in a nursery too. Great job!

Isn’t the expedit great for everything? I want a whole wall of them in my new craft room! I completely agree that cherry blossoms are gorgeous! Pandas are pretty cute too 😉 Thanks for stopping by Joscelyn!

SO cute! Love the color scheme and there’s a special place in my heart for Pandas, my mom has always collected them. Thanks for sharing!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Thanks Stephanie! I thought it was cute to begin with but all the extras took it to super cute level 2! Haha! It’s so sweet that your mama collected pandas! One day when we have kiddos of our own my hubby and I want to have an elephant themed nursery since my Nana lived in India and absolutely adored the elephants! She had them all over her house. Thanks for stopping by!

Pink is my favorite color so naturally my daughter’s room had to be filled with it right?! 😉 Like Betsy said, she took it to twice the cuteness (I might actually explode because of it ..!))

I love that third mood board the most! In our new home we plan on having a legit theme for Sophie. We kind of hodge podged it together for her room right now.

Sometimes hodge podged totally works! Haha! Setting up a theme will be fun though… you can base it a bit more around Sophie’s personality since you already know your little angel! Thanks for stopping by Liz!

I can tell you from experience – she loves it 🙂 Just have to add some of Betsy’s awesome finishing touches & it’ll be perfect.

This is just too stinking CUTE! I love the look she came up with and I love your storage ideas. I also like that it isn’t a traditional nursery look that you can pick up at any old store, and it can grow with her baby girl as she gets older! So unique and lovely 🙂
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I completely agree Addie! It’s such a unique theme… I know that’s one of the reasons Sam picked it! With a few new toy storage options her little girl will be able to use this room for many years to come! Thanks for stopping by!
Sam @ DIY Just Cuz says
You’re right Betsy, that is why I picked it! Especially living on base my husband and I didn’t want a conventional nursery (since our home are already exactly the same). Definitely in need of some toy space – she’s starting to get quite a collection :p
Jenna says
Sooooo cute! I love this and all of the pandas!
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Aren’t the pandas cute? I never knew why but growing up I had five stuffed pandas… and two were the really large kind that you could sit on as a kid. I absolutely loved them so I was so happy that Sam’s nursery had a pandaish theme! They’re so adorable! Thanks for stopping by Jenna!
Angela @ Setting My Intention says
This is such an adorable nursery. I never had an actual nursery so it’s so fun to see others’.

I don’t have any babies yet so this was my first nursery mood board and it was so much fun! I love looking at the nursery mood boards on Pinterest… it’ll be interesting to see what my kids rooms actually look like one day! Haha! Thanks for stopping by Angela!

You should do more boards Betsy – I like how everything flows together seamlessly, what program did you use?
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
I use Pixlr… it’s basically the free photoshop. I know there’s lots of free photo editing tools out there but since I was trained on photoshop and illustrator and currently don’t have them I like this one the best! I enjoy doing the mood boards… I’m working up the courage to start a new series called “Mood Board Mondays” they just take so long I’m worried I won’t have the time each week! When I said I whipped yours up I meant I spent 8 or 9 hours on it. 😉

That may be something I need to invest in actually – such a fun idea (even the little pandas around the baby..so cute!)

What a lovely idea. Pandas are so cute and the photo of the baby with pandas… it’s amazing!

That little baby is the sweetest! You can never go wrong with a basket full of babies and pandas! Thanks for stopping by!

You did a great job on this board Betsy! I will definitely be saving this as a resource while I start looking for new additions to her bedroom – I think it is lacking a little in the Panda department at the moment 🙂
Happily Ever After, Etc. says
Well I definitely found a couple pandas! Haha! There was an adorable set of panda bookends I wanted to incorporate but everywhere I checked was sold out!
