Last week I shared my fabulous DIY Washi Christmas Cards… and although I made 10 different designs (out of 7 rolls of washi!) y’all absolutely adored the little deer!
They’re absolutely adorable so I really can’t blame you!
Since you loved these little guys so much I agreed to share my tutorial for how to make ANY shape out of washi tape! The best part? It’s super easy!
Step 1: Find an image online and print it out. Make sure that your image is scaled properly (if you want a little deer… print a little deer! Don’t print a big deer wanting a little deer on your card!)… if the image is pixilated that’s alright!
It gives me hives to look at a pixilated image #graphicdesignerproblems but since the printed image is just a pattern it’s alright if it’s pixilated… just make sure there is a definite outline!
Step 2: Flip your image over and cover the back with Washi tape! I like to cut a general outline first… so that I don’t waste tons of Washi when I cover the back of my shape!
This part is super easy just make sure that your black outline is on one side and your washi tape is on the opposite side!
Tip: Remember that glitter washi doesn’t like to stick together so if you’re using glitter washi don’t overlap too much! If you’re using regular washi feel free to overlap!
Step 3: You’re almost done! Once your washi tape is in place flip your little deer over and carefully cut out the silhouette! Once your little deer is cut out you have two options… place double sided tape (or pop up poster tape) on the back of your little shape. Then use your washi tape shape as a sticker!
Option 2? Carefully peel your washi off of the pixilated backdrop! Once the backdrop is completely free your washi tape will be free to stick on whatever you please! I used this option with several round shapes for my Ornament Card! The circles were fairly easy to peel but I didn’t want to take the risk with these little deer… too many little pieces!
